How Do You Configure Carrier Reference Field Default Values

Use this setting to control the default values that Finale applies to carrier reference fields on shipment packages. Carrier reference fields can help you place consistent information on shipping labels for carriers that support them. Ref1 and Ref2 can be configured from a set of predetermined values, and each shipment package has its reference fields initialized from that configuration. You can overwrite either value manually in shipment package details.

Carrier Reference Field Configuration

You can access Carrier Reference Fields Configuration in the Application Settings area, on the Selling tab, in the Shipping section. This setting lets you choose the default source value for each carrier reference field.

Each reference field uses one predefined value. Available choices include common shipment properties such as:

  • Order number

  • Customer name

  • The first SKU in a shipment

  • The first two SKUs in a shipment

  • Additional shipment properties

These options let you decide which shipment details appear in the carrier reference fields by default when you create labels.

The following screenshot shows Reference fields 1 and 2 configured with Order number and the first two SKUs in an order:

Note: Not all carrier services support two reference fields. When a carrier service does not support them, the reference fields are not added to the labels you create.
