Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)

What is MFA

Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) is a security feature that adds an extra layer of protection when logging into Finale Inventory. Instead of relying solely on a password, MFA requires users to verify their identity using two or more methods—for example, entering a code sent to their email, mobile, or authenticator tool after typing their password.

This additional verification step significantly reduces the risk of unauthorized access to your account, even if your password is compromised. MFA ensures that only verified users can log in, helping to safeguard sensitive inventory, customer, and financial information within Finale Inventory.

In summary, MFA helps protect your business by confirming it’s really you who’s signing in—keeping your account secure from phishing, stolen credentials, and other cyber threats.

What MFA does Finale Offer?

There are three methods you can use as an additional verification step:

Authenticator App

An authenticator app (such as Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator) generates a time-based one-time passcode (TOTP) that refreshes every 30 seconds.

  • Security Level: Highest — codes are stored locally on your device and not sent over a network.

  • Best For: Users with smartphones who want the most secure and reliable MFA option, even when offline.

Mobile Phone (SMS)

With SMS verification, Finale sends a one-time code to your registered mobile number.

  • Security Level: Moderate — convenient, but less secure than an authenticator app since text messages can be intercepted or delayed.

  • Best For: Users who prefer simplicity and quick setup without installing an app.

  • Important Notes:

    • SMS is only supported for a limited list of countries:
      • Belgium
      • Canada
      • Germany
      • Mexico
      • Netherlands
      • United Kingdom
      • United States

    • Users should add their phone number in international format, for example:
      +1 (xxx) xxx-xxxx for USA / Canada
+44 xxx xxx xxxx for UK

Email

Email verification sends a one-time code to your registered email address.

  • Security Level: Moderate — easy to use, but security depends on the strength and protection of your email account.

  • Best For: Users who may not have access to a mobile device or prefer desktop-based authentication.

Key Points
