How to update an address and re-verify it

This article focuses on the facet of address verification that enables users to edit a sales order to correct an address that has failed verification, and to reissue a verification request once corrections are made.

While an address that has failed verification may still ultimately be delivered, retail shipping teams should aim to minimize shipments that proceed without successful verification. Verification reduces the rate of packages returned to sender, and it also minimizes unnecessary delays, carriers otherwise spending time attempting to interpret or correct unclear delivery details.

Editing Sales Order Addresses

To correct an address, the sales order must be in Draft status. If the order is not already in edit mode, editing can be enabled by clicking the Edit fields button located in the top right corner of the screen.

Once editing is enabled, navigate to the Address Information section. At the bottom of this section, click Edit bill to, ship to, or ship from address. This opens a dedicated view where the address fields can be updated and verified again.

As soon as you change the address, its previous verification state is cleared and reset to Unverified. After you finish your changes, click Verify to send a new verification request and update the address status.

Reverting Addresses

The outcome of address verification often differs from the original input, the verification process applying normalization to produce a standardized, carrier-optimal address. In some cases, users may prefer to return to the original version of the address prior to any verification.

Click Revert to original. This action restores the address exactly as it was before verification was first performed. A dialog is displayed, along with a preview of the value of each field to revert.
