How to Pick Transfer Orders Using the Mobile Barcode Scanner

Picking transfer orders in Finale Inventory is a simple process when using the mobile barcode scanner. This guide walks you through setting up your transfer order, printing barcoded documents, picking items in the warehouse, and syncing back to the Finale web application.


Accessing Transfer Orders

  1. From the Inventory dropdown menu, select Stock Transfers.

  2. In the Stock Transfer submenu, click Transfer Orders.

  3. Choose the transfer order you want to pick.

Important:

  • Ensure the transfer order is in Committed status.

    • Draft or Completed orders will not sync to the mobile barcode scanner.

  • Decide how the transfer will be received:

    • With a Transit Sublocation: Items will be automatically received into the defined transit sublocation once picked.

    • Without a Transit Sublocation: The order will sync back in Shipped status, and you will need to manually receive it later.


Print the Transfer Order with a Barcode

  1. In the transfer order, click the dropdown next to Print Transfer Order.

  2. Select Print Transfer Order with Barcode.

  3. Use this barcoded document in the warehouse when scanning with the mobile barcode scanner.


Sync Your Mobile Barcode Scanner

  1. On the scanner’s main menu, choose Option 1 – Sync.

  2. Log in if prompted.

  3. Confirm and complete the sync to load your transfer order.


Pick the Transfer Order

  1. From the main menu, select More > Option 6 (Transfers).

  2. Choose Option 2 – Pick Transfer Order.

  3. Scan the barcode at the top of the printed transfer order.

  4. Follow the prompts to pick items:

    • The scanner will direct you to the correct sublocation.

    • Scan the sublocation barcode.

    • Scan the product barcode(s) for the required quantity.

    • Repeat until all items are picked.

  5. Once all picks are complete, the scanner will confirm that the order is done.


Sync the Completed Pick

  1. Return to the main menu on the scanner.

  2. Select Option 1 – Sync again.

  3. Confirm login if needed and sync your data back to the Finale web application.


Verify in Finale Web Application

  • Open the transfer order in Finale.

  • You’ll see a Transfer Shipment created based on your scan.

  • Shipment status depends on your setup:

    • Transit Sublocation Defined: The shipment will be in Received status automatically.

    • No Transit Sublocation: The shipment will appear in Ship status, and you can click into it to Receive Shipment manually.


Tips

  • Always confirm the transfer order is Committed before scanning.

  • If you use multiple sublocations, scanning each item individually ensures accurate tracking.

  • Sync before and after picking to keep data up to date.

How do I change the Orientation of the Barcode Scanner screen?

The mobile barcode scanner software has a Toggle screen hot spot on the top of every screen in the app. Click the area under the title bar to swap your orientation.

How do I type a quantity on the scanner?

Press the Up arrow, on the bottom-of your screen in the app, BEFORE you scan the items you intend to receive or count. That will open up a quantity box for you to type into.

How do I use my own scanner with the Finale Inventory scanner app?

Ensure that your scanner is running on Android-OS 8.1 and that you are on the appropriate plan level to access Finale's barcoding features. The barcoding app can be downloaded directly from the Google Play Store.

Where do I purchase the scanner?

We have two preferred vendors that are recommended to purchase your scanner with however you may ultimately purchase a scanner from anywhere you wish. Our preferred vendors are Barcode-Arena and AML. Please note that Finale's Mobile Barcode Scanner app is only compatible on Android devices.

How do I know what version my scanner is running?

From the main screen of the Finale IMS Barcode Scanner app, click More until you reach option #18 About. Selecting this option will tell you exactly which version of the app you're running on that device.

What is the difference between a USB/Bluetooth scanner and a Mobile Scanning device?

USB/Bluetooth scanners can plug directly into a phone or computer for the purpose of scanning a barcode, whereas a Mobile Scanning Device acts as one handheld tool to run Finale's Mobile Barcode Scanner app and scan barcode information simultaneously.
