Using Skip Item During Picking with the Mobile Scanner

When picking sales orders with the barcode scanner, there may be times when a product is not physically in the sublocation that Finale directs you to. Instead of stopping the entire pick, you can use the Skip Item function to temporarily bypass the product and continue picking the rest of the order. Later, you can return to it with the Unskip Items option.

1. Start Your Pick

  1. From the Sales Order screen in Finale (or ShipStation’s Awaiting Shipment view), identify the order you want to pick.

  2. Print a packing slip or pick document with an Order ID barcode.

  3. On the scanner:

    • Sync to download the latest orders.

    • Select Pick ? Basic Pick ? Scan Every Item.

    • Scan the Order ID to begin picking.

2. When the Item Is Missing

  • As you scan through locations, if Finale directs you to a sublocation where the product is not physically available, choose:

    • Menu ? Skip Item.

  • The skipped item will be marked with 0 picked at the bottom of the screen.

  • Picking will continue to the next item on the order.

3. Resolving Skipped Items

Once the rest of the order is picked, you have two options:

  1. Stock Adjustment / Split Order

    • If the item truly isn’t available, you may need to create a stock adjustment or split the order to ship the available items first.

  2. Unskip Items

    • If the product is stored in a different location, select:

      • Menu ? More ? Unskip Items.

    • The scanner will return you to the skipped product.

    • You can then scan an alternate sublocation where stock is available and complete the pick.

4. Complete the Order

  • After all items are scanned (including skipped ones), sync the scanner.

  • In the web app, refresh the Shipments tab of the order.

  • The order will now show as fully packed and ready to ship.

Best Practices

  • Always verify alternate locations before skipping.

  • Use Unskip Items promptly to avoid incomplete picks.

  • If stock is routinely missing from expected locations, review your warehouse layout or stock management processes.
