How to interpret limits and order overage

Every Descartes Finale Inventory™ subscription includes a set of standard limits. These limits apply to users, integrations, products, and orders. Some limits are enforced as fixed caps, while order volume is handled differently. This article explains how to interpret order overage and where to review your current usage in Finale Inventory.

Subscription Limits

Finale Inventory subscriptions include limits in several areas, including users, integrations, products, and orders. Users and integrations are hard limits. That means your account cannot go beyond the number included in your subscription without a plan change. For example, if your team needs additional users, contact sales to review options for increasing that limit.

Some plans include unlimited subscriptions.

Order Limit and Overage

Order limits are treated differently from user and integration limits. Your order limit can be exceeded, and any orders above the included limit are considered overage.

Each Finale Inventory subscription includes a base number of core orders. That quantity is chosen during the account creation process with the sales team. The limit selected for the subscription determines how many orders are included in each monthly billing cycle. Once that threshold is exceeded, any additional new orders for that cycle count as overage.

Where to Review Order Usage

You can review order usage in the account status section under Application Settings, on the Billing tab. This section shows the current order limit for the plan, the number of orders accrued so far in the current billing cycle and the levels recorded for the previous billing cycle.

This view helps you compare current activity with the included monthly limit. It also makes it easier to see whether overage occurred in the last cycle and how close the current cycle is to the threshold.

Example of How Overage Is Calculated

The example below depicts an account with a base order limit of 10,000. Current volume shows the count below the limit with about a quarter of the cycle completed. As for the previous cycle, it shows a count of 10,959 orders with 959 above the threshold and considered in overage.
